Coupon Lingo Guide


For those of you who are new to couponing, here is an easy guide to reading abbreviations on match-ups, how to get them, and how they work.

CRTs - Cash Register Tape at CVS. There's a red ATM-style machine in every CVS store. Scan your CVS card and it prints out coupons for you to use in CVS.

ECBs - ExtraCare Bucks. CVS offers EBCs when you buy a certain dollar amount of a specified product(s). The EBCs go into your ExtraCare account (you will need a CVS loyalty card which is free), then you can print them out as coupons to use on new purchases. You do not need to purchase all the items in one transaction, but do need to purchase them during the sale to redeem the EBCs.

MIR - Mail In Rebate. Brands occasionally offer mail-in rebates when you purchase a certain items and/or certain $ amounts of their products. To get the rebate, fill out their form and attach anything needed, for example - an original receipt of the purchase, and mail it in. The rebate check could take up to 6-8 weeks to receive.

RP - RedPlum Coupon Insert found in the Sunday Newspaper. Check the Newspaper Insert page to see what inserts will be in the newspaper on Sunday. 

SCR - Single Check Rebate at Rite Aid. Browse their Rebate Directory to find rebates available. Save your receipts on items purchased for the rebate, enter the information on their website, then after the rebate's been approved, request a check at will be sent within 2 weeks.

SS - Smart Source Coupon Insert found in the Sunday Newspaper. Check the Newspaper Insert page to see what inserts will be in the newspaper on Sunday.

Stack - Stack a manufacturer's coupon with a store coupon to get even more off your purchase.

+UP - UP Rewards at Rite Aid. You will need a Wellness+ Card (Rite Aid's loyalty card which is free) to receive the rewards. When you purchase the amount needed to receive the rewards, it will print out on your receipt, like a coupon, to use on your next purchase. You do not need to purchase all the items in one transaction, but do need to purchase them during the sale to redeem the UP Rewards.

WYB - When You Buy. For example "$4 each wyb 2" means $4 each item when you buy 2 of the specified item.
